Marty Graul

With 20 years as an advisor, senior executive and private equity investor, Marty Graul has been on all sides of growing successful companies. While most of Marty’s career has been as a principal investor in medium to larger businesses, he believes the true lower end of the middle market (< $50 million in revenue) is underserved from a capital and capabilities perspective. At AOA, Marty is looking to forge long-term partnerships with owner-operators of these companies to work alongside the management team to implement sound growth strategies.

Marty is responsible for identifying and executing AOA’s new investment activities as well as assisting portfolio companies with the implementation and execution of strategic initiatives. Although AOA Capital Partners pursues a generalist investment strategy, the firm tends to focus on opportunities in industry sectors where Marty and his partners have accumulated significant experience, including specialty manufacturing, light industrial, value-added distribution and business services.

During the span of his career, Marty has led or participated in teams that have made dozens of equity investments in transactions representing aggregate enterprise value in excess of of $500 million. He began his career in investment banking in the technology mergers and acquisitions group at SG Cowen Securities. Marty then gained extensive experience with growth equity and subordinated debt investments from his role with Pacesetter Capital Group. Most recently, Marty was a Principal at The Riverside Company where he pursued buyout and recapitalization investment strategies. Between the two investing roles, Marty had several operating positions with small business services companies. Marty has also served on a number of Boards of Directors throughout his tenure as an investor.

Raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Marty graduated from Texas Christian University with a B.B.A. in Finance and Accounting, and he was later the recipient of an M.B.A. from The McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas. Marty and his family reside in the Dallas / Forth Worth area, where they are members of Gateway Community Church. Marty is married with three young daughters and in his leisure time, Marty enjoys hiking / mountaineering, mountain biking, general physical fitness and, of course, going to all of his daughters’ soccer games.
